Triage

WomenMATTA take referrals from police under their ‘Triage’ scheme. Triage is a partnership between Greater Manchester police and WomenMATTA based on the idea that giving a women support is more affective at stopping her reoffending, then giving her a criminal record. Women who meet the criteria are referred when they arrested, and instead of being charged, they may be given a conditional caution to engage with WomenMATTA. Women can also be referred voluntarily by police, or more commonly NHS employed ‘Liaison and Diversion’ staff based in custody suites.
