Diversion

WomenMATTA take referrals from police, courts and Liaison and Diversion organisations. This is programme aims to reduce the criminalisation of women by providing support to women directly around their key needs, this is an alternative to charging women. Women who meet the criteria are referred when they arrested, and instead of being charged, they may be given a conditional caution to engage with WomenMATTA. Women can also be referred voluntarily by police, or more commonly NHS employed ‘Liaison and Diversion’ staff based in custody suites.
