Well Women Centre Leigh
Well Women was established in 1996 as a women only safe space. The centre has a large number of dedicated volunteers and in 2016 was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
The centre supports women in the Wigan Borough aiming to improve their emotional health and wellbeing. The centre strives to empower women to make informed positive life choices. The centre works in a trauma informed way, and services include person centred counselling, Domestic abuse drop ins, freedom programme, recovery toolkit, women’s therapeutic craft support groups. Women attend with a range of presenting issues. The centre works with victims of abuse, women within the criminal justice system, and women requiring emotional support. The centre offers 1 -1 advocacy support and has dedicated case workers for clients needing extra 1-1 support. The centre has an outreach programme delivering support and programmes including freedom for children and raising awareness of services available within the borough for young people. The centre works in partnership with a range of voluntary and statutory organisations and has excellent links with the local authority.
Since October 2020, we are proud to have become part of the WBDAS – Wigan Borough Domestic Abuse Service. This is a Joint Partnership Project between Well Women Centre, Leigh and DIAS Domestic Violence Centre.
