Anawim – Birmingham’s Centre for Women offers gender and trauma responsive wraparound support to enable women to reach their potential. We work with more than 2000 women every year through drop-in, counselling, courses, crisis intervention and advocacy.

We have been based in Balsall Heath in Birmingham for 40 years. Our holistic and intensive long-term specialist support, alongside other practical resources, is offered to women in the community and a number of secure settings.

We believe women need access to holistic and tailored support, to progress towards independence, security, and safety and to live lives free from abuse, exploitation, prison, homelessness, and poverty. Anawim works with women towards employment, education, and a brighter future through emotional and life skills support.

Alternatives to Custody Anawim works with the Probation Service to offer community sentences as part of Community Rehabilitation Services which can be used as alternatives to custody for women involved in the criminal justice system. Intensive Supervision Court The Intensive Supervision Court is a female-only problem-solving court, a pilot which started in Birmingham in June 2023. New Chance Diversion Programme This project is aimed at women who have committed first time or low-level offending, diverting them away from the criminal justice system and reducing the risk of reoffending.
